Diet is key for men who want to improve erectile problems. Urologist Zhu Xincheng notes that the Mediterranean diet can improve cardiovascular health and help alleviate sexual dysfunction. Recommended foods include dark leafy greens such as spinach or kale; fruits such as blueberries and citrus; as well as nuts, whole grains, fish, olive oil, and red wine, which can help protect blood vessel function.
Zhu Xincheng said on his Facebook page that erectile dysfunction is closely linked to cardiovascular disease. Studies have found that men with cardiovascular disease risk factors are significantly more likely to develop erectile dysfunction. Men with erectile dysfunction are also more likely to develop coronary heart disease and peripheral vascular disease, and the diagnosis may be considered a warning sign of potential cardiovascular disease risk.
Zhu Xincheng pointed out that men who have trouble “getting it up” can make dietary changes. Research has found that the Mediterranean diet can improve cardiovascular health and alleviate sexual dysfunction. Key ingredients in the Mediterranean diet include “vegetables”: eating dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale every day provides antioxidants, improves blood vessel function, and promotes circulation.
Next are “ fruit” and “nuts.” Blueberries, citrus fruits, walnuts, and almonds are recommended. These foods contain flavonoids and Omega-3, which help reduce inflammation and improve sexual function. Also include “ fish” and “whole grains”: eat salmon or mackerel two to three times a week. They are rich in Omega-3, which can strengthen blood vessel health. Pair them with whole grains such as brown rice and oats to help stabilize blood sugar.
Zhu Xincheng notes that for oils, “ olive oil” , is recommended. Replace saturated fats with olive oil to improve cholesterol levels and make blood vessels more elastic. Finally, there is “ red wine”—drink it in moderation, 10 to 50 grams per day. Red wine contains antioxidant polyphenols that can help protect blood vessel function. In addition to a healthy diet, exercise regularly, manage your weight, quit smoking, and reduce stress. Exercise helps improve circulation, while smoking and stress can damage blood vessel function.
